Leadership Luncheon 2019

The annual Leadership Luncheon celebrates companies and individuals in the Central Ohio community who are making a difference in the lives of our young people. On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the Simon Kenton Council honored one company and one individual who illustrate these qualities.

Equity received the Community Leadership Award. This recognition is presented to a company that has shown exemplary leadership through service to the central Ohio community and is highly regarded by its peers in the construction industry. Award recipients are selected by a Scouting volunteer committee of construction industry professionals.

Equity has long been supportive of the Scouting program dating back to when Steve Wathen served on the council’s executive board. As CEO of Equity, Steve leads by example in service to the community through his involvement with Youth Aviation Adventure (YAA), a non-profit organization that educates young people about aviation. YAA has also been a longtime partner of Scouting providing Aviation Merit Badge programming to our Scouts.

Nicholas Bankston received the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award. The Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award is presented to an individual that has made an impact on youth from hard-to-serve urban and rural communities. Nick is a dedicated public servant and thought leader on issues facing Columbus neighborhoods.

Nick currently serves as Project Manager of Neighborhood Transformation Strategies for the City of Columbus. He simultaneously serves on the board of directors of the Columbus Urban League as President of the Columbus Urban League Young Professionals. He is also on the board of the Reeb Avenue Center and St. Stephens Community House.

Please join us in celebrating Equity, Steve, and Nick on their accomplishments!
